On a picture perfect weather day anglers Dan Johnson and Ferd Lohman were able to cash in with 6 walleyes weighing in at 12.65 lbs. They are the proud owner of a new Crestliner 18 Canadian, powered by a Mercury 50 hsp outboard. This new 18 foot model sits next to the boat they won at last year’s event. Dan and Fred are the first repeat winners of the Gaston event. What a time to make a run. Dan and Ferd were able to catch their winning fish at Hanna Creek point and along the Mussel bed of the flats just north of the Egypt Hollow boat ramp. Most all their fish came spooning Hopkins shorty silver and gold spoons in ½ oz weight. Congratulations again.
On the catfish side, an angler that has participated every year came out on top. Congratulations to Derrick Johnson on his first place finish. Derrick was able to compile a weight of 19.3 lbs and distance himself from the field. Congratulations Derrick! I would like to express my sincerest thanks to all those that competed in our event. I hope that you all had a great time. Many thanks to all those that make it possible. Please remember all these fine sponsors when the time comes you are looking to make a purchase. First off, many thanks to everyone that participated. The weather certainly was not on our side as we battled 30+ mph winds and rain for all of the day. It certainly made boat control a tremendous task. However a tournament must always have a winner no matter the conditions and the bite. I know my self and others were on some very nice fish that the lighting just scattered. Just happen to be next to Dan and his partner Ferd as they put on a clinic between myself and Brumbaugh. Caroline Koester set a tournament record with her Big catfish that tipped the scales at 10.70 pounds.
Again we made changes with this year’s tournament that seemed to help things run smoother. We will continue to incorporate the two flights and the boats leaving in order again next year so you can better prepare. As I mentioned earlier many thanks to those here at Indiana walleye on helping us make another successful tournament and we hope to see all of you along with many more next year.
